Hello! I’m Sheryl, a dedicated mom, avid baker, and the heart behind Surfside Paws. Originally from Long Island, New York, my family and I relocated to Rhode Island for my husband’s job. This big move transformed me into a stay-at-home mom, a role I cherish deeply. However, I soon realized I needed something uniquely mine—a venture that allowed me to create and contribute while staying close to home.
My journey into the world of canine care began with a simple dog sitting business. It was a joyous endeavor, meshing well with my love for animals and giving me a delightful purpose outside of daily family routines. However, a challenge soon presented itself when we discovered my youngest daughter had a severe peanut allergy. This revelation heightened our family's awareness and cautiousness, especially since some pet foods and treats could carry allergens that might not only affect my daughter but also other children like her.
The turning point came when our eldest, who does not have a peanut allergy, accidentally consumed a dog treat, mistaking it for something else. This incident was a wake-up call about the potential risks posed by everyday items in our home. It made me think of all the other families dealing with similar allergies—peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, dairy, and soy—who must navigate these small yet significant dangers daily.
